Adventureland

I believe I am now fully equipped. Broken-in boots, cozy long undies, stylish down jacket, a pharmacy worth of medications, immunizations, first aid kit, visas, travelers cheques, camera and supplemental supplies, razor sharp Leatherman with teeny, tiny scissors, and, very importantly, my own supply of TP....the list is endless and seemed to keep breeding and multiplying.

Thursday (Oct 7) begins the epic journey: New York to Delhi to Kathmandu. 14+ hours in the air. 10+ hours overnight at Indira Gandhi International. 2 and half hours in the air to Nepal. Then, finally, 2 days later hop a Cessna to the feet of the Himalayas and start walking (slowly, gradually!), ending up at the base camp of the highest point on earth, Everest—17,500 feet, thank you very much. I have drugs to help me get there.

It was a quick and rather sudden decision. The BF and I had talked about trekking the Himalayas since it was an adventure we both, separately, had wanted to experience before age, bad knees and aching backs took over...too much. At first I wasn’t sure if I could do it. Could my feet take it? Could I handle the altitude? But then I discovered there would be a porter and possibly my very own yak. Someone to carry my crap?! I’m in.

Two months later after non-stop shopping, a slow drain of my bank account, and extra Stairmaster sessions, I am ready and nervous. Anxious and excited. Ready to go and ready to fly to the other side of the earth and experience Shangri La first-hand. So, stay tuned right here for the day-by-day, blow-by-blow of the journey to the bottom of the top of the world coming in November....and, yes, pictures too.
